20 Women Owned Beauty Brands To Show Love To

No one knows the secret to making a woman’s face feel beautiful like other women. Yet, historically the beauty industry has been dominated by companies owned by men.  Here at The Cool Mom Co., we are all about women supporting women. That’s why we’ve put together a list of our favorite beauty brands founded and owned by women. Check out the brands below, and be sure to tag us in your makeup looks on Instagram @thecoolmomco.

Honest Beauty

Long time Cool Mom Co. readers will know that we are super fans of Honest Beauty’s extensive selection of products. From skincare, to makeup, to hair care, Honest Beauty has it all.

Founder Jessica Alba started the company with the idea that clean beauty and home products should be accessible and work well. They have a “No List” of over 2500 chemicals and harmful ingredients they refuse to use in their products, as well as maintaining a commitment to evolving sustainability practices.

DIME Beauty

DIME Beauty was created when the founder noticed there was a gap in the beauty market. She could not find products and brands that catered to a wide range of skin needs, as well as different stages of life.

DIME now offers a variety of clean and effective skincare and makeup products. Their bestsellers include an eyelash boosting serum, and a hyaluronic acid serum for a natural, effortless glow.

Earth Harbor

Earth Harbor is the beauty brand for all of our beach babes out there. Their plant-based formulas are cruelty free, vegan, and free of all synthetic ingredients. The founder is a certified health scientist and herbalist, who uses potent combinations of natural ingredients to create skin, hair, and body care that will let your natural beauty shine.

Osea Malibu

Osea has been a pioneer in the clean beauty movement since 1996. Deeply inspired by the healing powers of the ocean, their products feature ingredients sourced directly from the sea. They are particularly interested in the health benefits of seaweed, and many of their products are derived from it.

Shani Darden Skincare

Not only is Shani Darden a certified Cool Mom, she’s also an expert esthetician, beloved by Hollywood elites. You don’t have to get a facial with her to reap the benefits of her knowledge. Her award winning skin care line will have your skin looking better than ever.

Then I Met You

Then I Met You’s products may be influenced by K-beauty trends, but that is not the only inspiration they took from Korea. When founder Charlotte Cho spent 5 years in Korea, she learned about the concept of ‘jeong.’ Jeong refers to a feeling of deep connection a person can feel to places, people, or things.

Out of this concept they’ve created a collection of deeply well-thought out products designed to give customers a deep connection to their own bodies and skincare.

Epara

Epara is a UK based brand with skincare formulas designed to treat a variety of problems. Whether you struggle with dry skin, aging, or hyperpigmentation, they have a skin care routine to help you.

CEO Ozohu Ado was particularly interested in developing a skincare line that would help target the problems women of color face. She herself struggled with dry skin, and turned to the natural remedies favored in Africa. She uses the same botanicals that helped her obtain, soft, hydrated skin, in the products she helps formulate for Epara.

Peach and Lily

Peach and Lily is a beloved K-beauty brand. Their product range includes the viral glass skin refining serum. K-beauty is known for combining natural, gentle ingredients with the latest in skincare research and technology. The result? Powerful products that will transform your skin.

Pholk Beauty

Phok Beauty describes itself as “soul food for the skin.” Their founder was frustrated with the natural beauty community, which did not offer products that specifically targeted the skin issues she faced as a woman of color.

Their products are natural and effective, without the high price markups many clean beauty brands have.

Krave Beauty

Krave Beauty believes that no skin is problem skin. In fact, your skin work exactly as it should. It just needs a little help, now and then.

Their gentle and effective products are designed to support your skin. By replenishing and protecting your skin barrier you’ll end up with healthier skin that can thrive the way it is supposed to.

Tresluce Beauty

Tresluce’s products are as fun as they are beautiful. Their vegan-friendly makeup products are designed for those who like to be bold and unapologetic in their looks.

Most notable is their gorgeous eyeshadow palettes, with bold, rich hues. We also love their eyeliner pencil set, featuring pencils in every shade in the rainbow.

Versed

Versed aims to get real, when it comes to skincare. They get rid of unnecessary ingredients, and packaging that drive the prices up, and stick to the proven basics. What you get is a simple, effective product free of harmful ingredients like fragrance, sulfates, and dyes.

Kosas

Kosas is a minimalist beauty line that aims to create makeup that leaves your skin more beautiful, after it is washed off. All of the makeup in their line is clean, nourishes skin, and doesn’t leave you feeling cakey and dry.

Ilia Beauty

Ilia is a favorite in the clean beauty community. They focus on creating makeup that leaves skin looking like skin, rather than high-coverage formulas designed to erase and conceal.

Unlike other clean beauty products that rely only on botanicals, Ilia recognizes the power of science, and uses things like high-quality SPF so that their products protect your skin while you are wearing them.

Anita Grant

After Anita Grant was hospitalized due to a severe reaction to an ingredient in her lotion, she knew she had to make a change.

All of her products are safe for very sensitive skin. If you suffer from allergies to ingredients, the brand has a comprehensive list of ingredients they suggest avoiding.

We are particular fans of her haircare line, inspired by her own journey of embracing her natural texture.

Uncommon Beauty by Kristin Cavallari

Uncommon Beauty has limited options when it comes to skincare. But that’s for a reason! Founder Kristin Cavallari (yes, that Kristin Cavallari), values the simplicity in a good quality skincare routine. Their five product range is designed to be simple and effective enough to work for everyone.

Mad Hippie Advanced Skincare

Mad Hippie has been a cult favorite for years, due to their powerful Vitamin C and A serums. They have a whole range of natural products, however, that are just as great. Their products are safe for sensitive skin, and are free of PEGs and SLS.

Beauty Bakerie

Beauty Bakerie offers some of the most delicious products on the market! Founder Cashmere Nicole is a cancer survivor and, as such, is deeply concious about what she put on and in her body.

Beauty Bakerie features all of the safe, high-quality ingredients you would find in traditional green makeup brands, but presents them in a fun, accessible way.

Ustawi

Ustawi is a brand that believes in celebrating melanated skin. Many of the more mainstream skincare brands do not take into consideration the needs of different skin tones when making their products. Not Ustawi!  These products are primarily designed to fight dark spots and hyperpigmentation. All formulas feature unique natural ingredients, but are backed by well-researched science.

Pai Skincare

If you have sensitive skin you simply must try the products from Pai. Designed specifically with sensitive skin in mind, they are fully transparent in the ingredients they use in their products. Their routines are designed to be gentle, and to strengthen the skin over time.
