The Cool Mom Co.’s Ultimate Guide To Vacation Style

Summer is almost over! It’s time to soak up our last bits of backyard BBQ’s, picnics in the park, and days spent lounging poolside. With so many different activities, it’s essential to have a wardrobe that is as versatile as it is flattering.

Here at The Cool Mom Co. we are all about choosing classic pieces that can last you a lifetime. Our Summer Style Guide is full of options that are as timeless as they are trendy. Be sure to snap a pic in your favorite pieces and tag us @thecoolmomco.

Lululemon Align Bike Shorts

When the temperatures rise, it’s time to trade in your trusty pair of leggings for a cool pair of bike shorts. You might be used to wearing your bike shorts to the gym, but the wardrobe staple can absolutely be dressed up for an everyday look.

For inspiration, look no further than Princess Diana’s gym looks. Her bike shorts and oversized sweatshirt combination has been copied by celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and Kim Kardashian. Pair it with some minimal gold jewelry and slicked back hair for a look that is perfect for Mamas on the Go.

While there are endless options for high quality bike shorts on the market, we think you simply can’t go wrong with a classic. We love the buttery soft feel and durability of Lululemon’s Align shorts.

Statement Sneakers

Us busy moms know the importance of having a functional wardrobe. However, just because your wardrobe is designed to be comfortable, doesn’t mean you can’t make a style statement.

Case in point? Statement sneakers!

Sneakers are the ultimate, when it comes to footwear. Practical enough for everyday, they can also easily be dressed up with a midi dress or skirt. A statement sneaker can be a great way to express your style, even if you only have time to throw on jeans and a tee.

A high top sneaker adds a cool, sporty edge, when paired with a minidress.

A Breezy Minidress

Nothing says ‘date night’ quite like a short, flirty minidress. It’s a look that is practically synonymous with summer.

We recommend sticking to one in neutral colors so that you can get the most wear out of them. If you want to switch up the look, a colorful pair of heels, or a boxy blazer will give you a fresh viibe, with minimal effort.

We love the ruffle detail and square neckline on this one. The wrap dress style accentuates your curves, and makes this a perfect look for a night on the town.

Railroad Stripe Overalls

Confession: we are obsessed with overalls.

They’re cute, they are practical, and they make us feel like a pro gardener (even if we’re struggling to keep our houseplants alive).

This summer, switch it up with these trendy railroad striped overalls. We love how the bleached denim and relaxed cut gives instant beach vibes. We would pair these with our favorite white tee, and wear them to the farmer’s market, a lunch date, or just a casual afternoon at the park.

Cottagecore Maxi

If you loved wearing princess dresses and pretending you could speak to small animals as a child, this is for you. Fairytale-like, “cottagecore” aesthetics have been all over social media this year.

Luckily, this is a trend that can be made approachable for everyone. The key is to invest in lightweight maxi dresses. Feminine details like puffed sleeves, demure prints, or ruffles help to add a touch of whimsy to this look.

We love the checked pattern of this one, and the unexpected halter neckline. Wear it to prance around in a field of flowers, or toss on a pair of sandals for a perfect beach day dress.

A Strappy, Minimalist Sandal

We love a statement shoe, but when it comes to building your wardrobe it’s important to have a few standard pieces on hand. In summer, that mean a strappy sandal that can take any outfit from so-so to chic.

We love the minimalist vibes of this, paired with a heel that is not too short, and not too tall.

A Staple Pair of Denim Shorts

If you are anything like us, denim shorts are definitely a summertime go to!  Finding a great pair, however, can be a challenge.

This pair from Everlane features a 5.5 inch length, which offers plenty of coverage while not feeling like a “mom short.” They are made from Everlane’s signature stretch-free denim, which means they are sturdy and can last you for years to come.

Babydoll Tops

Is that 2008 calling? It may be, because babydoll tops are back, y’all!

Personally, we’re glad to welcome back this trend. Babydoll tops have a flattering shape with feminine details. They can create a slightly more elevated look to your outfit, while still being very comfortable.

We love the versatility of this linen version, from Madewell. It’s formal enough to wear at the office, in summer, while being made out of a light fabric that makes it comfortable for the weekends.

A Corset Style Top

We LOVE the corset trend, going around. That being said, it can be a little intimidating to think of incorporating a corset into your everyday wardrobe.

This top from Reformation splits the difference. The bustier design helps this feel a little fancier than your everyday tank top. It looks super cool with a pair of jeans, and some minimalist jewelry.

A Classic Pair of Shades

No summer look is complete without a pair of sunglasses. We recommend trying out a pair from Sunski, a sustainable eyewear company. It’s easy to buy a cheap pair of sunnies from a chain store. Inevitably, though, they break after a few months.

Sunski’s products are designed to be durable. They are made out of 100% recycled plastic, so that you can protect your eyes and the planet at the same time.
