Trending Home Decor – What’s Your Vibe?

Putting together a home is one of the most exciting parts of adulting. Creating a space that combines function with your personal style can be challenging, though, when you aren’t quite sure what your personal style is.

Scrolling through pinterest is a great way to get ideas, but can be overwhelming if you don’t know what to look for. Don’t worry, Mamas! We’ve got you covered. We’re breaking down some of the most popular design trends at the moment, and giving you all the tips on how to incorporate them into your home. Read on to discover you home decor vibes.

Minimalist Chic

Here at The Cool Mom Co., we love the look of a minimalist home. These clutter-free spaces are peaceful and manageable. It’s also one of the easiest ways to style a home.

For a minimalist look, it’s good to settle on a color palate early on. While many people lean towards neutral shades like creams, greys, and beiges, that doesn’t mean you have to give up on color. Choosing one or two featured colors like these pearly pink or soft green shades can help add interest, without being overwhelming.

Minimalist homes work best when all the pieces in them have a function. Choosing furniture items that do double duty, such as this Crate and Barrel sectional with hidden storage is a great way to maximize space.

Boho Babe

Boho vibes are looking better than ever these days, with designers using a combination of new and vintage pieces to create a totally unique look.

The boho style is characterized by it’s natural, effortless look. It often features a mix of earthy textures and colors, to create a space that feels relaxed and homey.

We’re obsessed with the handcrafted look of rattan furniture in boho houses, like this bookcase from World Market. Paired with a Moroccan shag rug and a collection of house plants, you can create a living space that is perfect for a yoga session.

While boho homes can feature all sorts of colors, we recommend sticking with warm earthy shades like rusty oranges and clay pinks. Paired with natural elements like wood, these colors will help you get the boho home of your dreams.

Modern Farmhouse

Farmhouse home decor has become increasingly popular over the past few years, thanks in large part to Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” and Magnolia.

This style is known for featuring rustic elements, full of old-time charm. Most lovers of the farmhouse aesthetic opt to stick to a mostly white color palette. Details like black bronze hardware, and shiplap walls create a unique mix of old and new.

One of the best ways to accessorize your farmhouse home is by taking a trip to your local antique stores. Look for dark wood furniture with lots of detailing to add character to your living spaces. Small trinkets like cast iron cookware, or wooden pieces like crates and washboards will add interest to houses that are constructed in a more modern style.

Mid Century Modern

Lovers of the mid century modern aesthetic often spend a lifetime collecting the unique, geometric furniture pieces that characterized the 60’s and 70’s. Don’t have a collection to pull from? Luckily more and more designers are looking towards the past, and drawing inspiration from mid century designs.

If browsing thrift stores isn’t your thing, you can get recreation pieces, like this walnut coffee table or this leather armchair online.

We love creating a nod to the time period by adding in little details. Add in a retro style milkshake maker, or starburst clock to get a midcentury look without any drastic changes.

Mid Century color palettes are also very distinct. Bringing in bright pops of orange and blue adds color and interest, while we suggest sticking with a base combination of olive greens, wood tones.

Parisian

Many people admire the way the Parisians approach style, when it comes to their wardrobe. But their homes are also enviably chic!

Paris is an old city, and many apartments have stood the test of time. Antique  and feminine details really allow these spaces to shine. The good news is this look can be easily recreated, regardless of the age of your home.

To get the true Parisian look, we suggest investing in crown molding and trim pieces to create that signature, French paneled look on your walls. Painting everything a warm white will keep the room looking open and clean.

Decor like the famous Anthropologie Gleaming Primrose mirror and antique inspired crystal chandeliers will add a touch of luxury to any room.

Electric

While neutral colors may be all the rage, some of us just can’t do without color. Adding bold color choices to your home doesn’t have to be scary! It can be the perfect way to show your personality.

DIY geometric painted walls are all the rage right now, and we are huge fans. With hundreds of easy options, this is a surefire way to make your home a statement piece.

We also recommend that you never forget the power of a good, colorful rug, when it comes to adding texture and pattern to a room. Tiny details like these rainbow glass candle holders from Anthropologie can help add to the eclectic feel of your home, on a budget.
