Can you tell us a secret no one would guess about you?
When I was a kid, and we would vacation, I would pick up the local accent, or the accent of the kids I played with — like Bajan accent in Barbados, Irish accent when hanging with a new Irish friend by the pool at Disney World. A little like the Madonna thing… Haha how insufferable. But I was good!
One meal you could eat everyday?
My husband’s branzino al sale with rosemary potatoes.
One vice you wont give up?
A freshly baked chocolate chip cookie each night.
Late riser or early bird?
Late riser that loves being Europe to US jetlagged because then I become an early bird.
Morning routine you swear by?
Skincare. My skincare routine is so relaxing to me, it’s almost like a meditation and I listen to the BBC world service while I wake up and my husband gives our daughter her morning milk and breakfast.
One day I hope…
that Black Maternal health care statistic and treatments will not be dismal and will significantly improve.
More the merrier or less is more?
As a proud maximalist I say the more the merrier. Bold colors, bold patterns, bold, bright personalities at your dinner table.
But less is more when it comes time to recharge and giving yourself grace and space to maintain your peace.
Cool brands you love?
Shiffon Co jewelry – I remember Shilpa, the founder reaching out to me to be her mentor so many years ago. What she has accomplished amazes me. Through the pinky ring, they have a fund for female entrepreneurs to receive equal access to start up capital. I truly believe that when you support women, you support communities and Shilpa is the personification of this.
Lafayette148 – So chic, I really feel on my grown woman shhhh when I wear this brand.
Harbison – I love love love this brand and Charles Harbison. He is my fashion angel — we met at the White House during an event hosted by Mrs. Obama. The trajectory of his brand has been incredible to see and he’s a go to for a stand out party dress.
Atelier Ndigo – Her pieces are like sculptural pieces of art. And comfortable!
Scaglione – my husband’s knitwear brand. Because I feel like wearing cashmere is like wearing hugs.
Welcome Home – The postpartum meal delivery service founded by Mandela Cocores that was a Godsend to us post partum. Blue is 1.5 years old and I still think about Mandela’s meals. They were so tasty.
On the horizon: what’s coming soon?
My podcast, Building Home is coming back in 2025 and I’m so excited for that and to continue to build community in both the travel space and the expat family space. I’m a proud Google Pixel Ambassador so I have some fun collabs coming on the horizon with them and let’s put it out there… finding a book agent for my memoir in 2025!
