I have to admit, I don’t eat a full breakfast every morning like I should so a healthy green shake is key for me, especially while pregnant. I am usually so crunched for time that I focus on getting the girls fed and myself dressed…typical mom! I’m sure I am not alone in my hectic morning routine but I have found that a nutrient packed shake helps to give me that energy boost my body craves.
People always ask me “why shakes over juicing?” When I am home, I love getting the entire fruit or veggie in my shake instead of juicing which takes out the pulp and skin (don’t get me wrong I love stopping at the gazillion juice bars here in LA too). Shakes also fill me up more than juicing so I’m not starving before I have time to make a proper meal. Usually no later than 10am, I try to have eggs and toast or yogurt and granola.
Lizzy’s Healthy Green Shake
1/2 Cup Frozen Organic Mango Chunks
1/2 Cup Frozen Organic Strawberries
1 Frozen Organic Banana
1 Cup Organic Spinach or Kale
1 Small Cucumber
Juice of 1 Lime
2 Tablespoons of Organic Chia Seeds
Cover with water or Coconut water and blend well. I love the Vitamix Blender but any great blender will do!
